Generally speaking, leather comes from the hide of cattle like cow, sheep, buffalo, pig as well as other non-domestic animals. Classification of leather basically is determined by the process whereby the hide is rendered useable or the way the hide is transformed into leather. For example, rawhide is usually made by scraping, stretching, and soaking in lime; vegetable tanned leather is made by using tannin, chrome tanned leather is made by using chemicals such as chromium sulphate etc. There are also another leather like brain tanned leather, synthetic and alum tanned leathers with different process of production.

You can see distinctive qualities, colors, and finishes of leather by these different processes. While the process also determines its softness and durability. The reason that some leather touches brittle and rigid is due to process. The skill of process will affect the quality of quality directly. Some other leather touches pliable determined by what different uses the leather can be put to.

Everyone of us is consumer of leather. So maybe you need to know about leather that there are different qualities of leather such as ‘Full-grain’ or ‘Buffed’ (corrected), ‘Split’ or ‘Top Grain’, and ‘Pure Aniline’ or ‘Semi Aniline’.

If you like the leather looked untreated, full-grained leather is the ideal one. This kind of leather retains all the discolorations or scars from injury that the animal had before. Some people like these imperfections of full-grained leather which is buffed or corrected. Usually the natural animal leather retains great resilience and durability. With great breath full grained leather can bring you the utmost comfort.

Nowadays full-grain leather has two types: Aniline and Semi-aniline. Aniline is kind of leather that has not been colored. People make it like that in order to obtaining a certain color or disguising flaws. Believe it or not, aniline touches extremely soft and breathable. Semi-aniline leather has dyeing process but generally is similar to aniline.

There are some another leather normally used into like Shoes, bags,clothes and accessories are buckskin, patent leather, and bonded leather. Buckskin is obtained from animal brains or other fats by treating and then smoking it to prevent from decay. After an artificial coating, patent leather, distinctive high sheen leather is usually rendered glossy. Bonded leather actually only has 10% genuine leather fibers while the rest of 90% is made up of manmade fiber.
